Hypochlorination and Pump Lab 

This 2 day course covers the theory and science of sodium and calcium hypochlorination and is designed for water system operators responsible for disinfection utilizing hypochlorites and operating hypochlorinators.

This course highlights: types of hypo chlorites; importance of the disinfection and monitoring process; concepts of chlorination; safety and handling practices. Additionally, a basic math refresher including: basic volume calculations building into dilution factors; concentration and dosing calculations.

Hands-on labs include: pump maintenance; trouble shooting; repairs; residual monitoring protocol and the colorimeters utilized.

 

 

Basic Math and Disinfection

This 1/2 day course is designed for water utility operators, providing a review of basic math relating to chlorination and disinfection. We combine basic math exercises and build the skills required to enable an operator to perform basic system and chlorine calculations with confidence. Agenda items include: introduction to math; basic math exercises; formulas; conversions; chlorine calculations; volume calculations; flow rate calculations.

 

Water Main Commissioning

 This ½ day course focuses on the process of commissioning of a new water main. Topics include: basic hydraulics and cross connection considerations; filling the main for the first time; pre-pressure test considerations; troubleshooting / leak detection; post-test flushing requirements; chlorination; flushing and dechlorination; bacterial sampling; connecting the new main
